Tadalafil is a custom pharmacy drug classified in the family of drugs known as phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. Tadalafil has many uses in modern medicine but is perhaps most often prescribed for erectile dysfunction (ED) and/or impotence. Additionally tadalafil is used to treat various symptoms such as painful urination, urinary urgency, or difficulty urinating (with or without dribbling, a weak stream, or simply incomplete emptying of the bladder) that occur due to conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia. Tadalafil is also prescribed for some patients who may have a compromised ability to exercise due to pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Tadalafil is most often given as a tablet that can be taken with or without food. It is prescribed for daily use or on an as needed basis for erectile dysfunction and associated issues. For other issues/conditions, it is typically taken once a day. If your doctor prescribes tadalafil for use as needed with ED, it is typically taken about a half an hour before sexual activity, but your doctor will decide what is best for you. Tadalafil is not intended for use more than once in any 24-hour period; ask you doctor about the risks associated with tadalafil usage. Consult with your compounding pharmacist if you have any general questions or concerns during your course of treatment with tadalafil. If you have concerns about how tadalafil is affecting you, talk to your doctor.
