Lomustine is a custom pharmacy drug classified in the family of drugs known as alkylating agents. Lomustine is a drug prescribed for cancer patients and works by halting cancer cell growth within the body. Lomustine is prescribed most often for brain tumor treatment as well as the treatment of Hodgkin's disease.


Lomustine is given as a capsule to be taken orally. Never bite, chew, or break the capsules and always wear rubber or latex gloves when handling capsules. Do not let capsules make contact with skin. If there is contact with skin, wash the area with soap immediately, and thoroughly. Lomustine has very specific dosing instructions. Make sure to be clear on the dosing. While taking this drug, some patients have encountered side effects. Watch for any changes and if side effects are noticed that are growing worse or persisting, seek medical attention. Commonly experienced side effects seen with lomustine are:

  • Unsteady Walk or Gait
  • Low or No Appetite
  • Paleness of Skin
  • Fainting or Feeling Faint Like You May Pass Out
  • Hair Loss or Hair Shedding
  • Nausea and/or Vomiting
  • Sores in Mouth and/or Throat
  • Extreme or Unusual Weakness
  • Unusual Tiredness

Severe Side Effects:

Some patients using this drug may unfortunately experience severe side effects that require immediate medical treatment. Seek emergency medical treatment if any side effects experienced feel severe. Seek emergency medical treatment if anything on the list below is experienced.

  • Loss Of Vision
  • Vision Changes
  • Trouble Breathing
  • Feeling Short of Breath
  • Decrease in Urination
  • Swelling (Face, Arms, Hands, or Feet)
  • Swelling (Ankles and/or Lower Legs)
  • Jaundice
  • Confused Feeling
  • Dry Coughing
  • Chest Pain
  • Wheezing


Do not take this drug unless given permission by a primary care doctor. This drug is extremely potent and should only be used as needed and as prescribed by a primary care doctor. Follow doctor's directions for usage and dosage with exact precision.
