Electrolyte Saliva Gel

Electrolyte saliva gel is a custom compounded pharmacy drug primarily ordered for the treatment of xerostomia, commonly known as dry mouth. Dry mouth can have many causes from medication reactions to diseases and conditions, but it is typically evidenced by a change in the mouth's saliva composition or a reduced flow of saliva within the mouth.

Electrolyte saliva gel is applied directly into the mouth. Patients should wash their hands thoroughly, rinse, and dry, then use a clean finger to apply the gel to the target area within the mouth. Electrolyte saliva gel can be used before eating, at bedtime, and also with dentures if needed. Always drink a healthy amount of water daily while using electrolyte saliva gel. Consult with your compounding pharmacist if you have further questions regarding use or expectations.

Electrolyte saliva gel is tolerated well by many patients, but anyone using it should watch for signs of severe allergic reaction and seek emergency medical attention right away if experienced.

Signs of Severe Allergic Reaction:

  • Difficulty Breathing
  • Tightness in the Chest
  • Hives
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Swelling of the Mouth, Lips, Face, or the Tongue

NOTE: If you experience any side effects that are concerning to you, consult with your physician right away.

There is very little data on the effects of electrolyte saliva gel on pregnancy or breastfeeding; thus, it is advised that no one who is pregnant or breastfeeding use electrolyte saliva gel unless her physician specifically requests its use.

Check with your physician for other possible contraindications.
